The Thorens TD 404 DD is a high-precision direct-drive turntable designed around a powerful electronically controlled DC motor derived from the TD 124 DD platform. The motor delivers high torque and excellent speed stability with extremely low wow & flutter, while electronic speed control supports 33, 45 and 78 rpm operation. The design integrates a heavy 12" aluminium-and-rubber sandwich platter and the TP160 knife-edge bearing tonearm, engineered to provide accurate tracking, low friction and stable cartridge control.

The chassis uses a rigid construction with a thick aluminium top plate to minimise mechanical resonance and improve vibration control. Additional features include electronic speed selection, pitch control with stroboscopic monitoring, and an electronic tonearm lift with automatic shut-off to protect the stylus and record at the end of playback. The turntable also provides both RCA and balanced XLR outputs, enabling integration into high-end analogue systems with minimal signal degradation.
