The MSB Technology Sentinel is a high-end digital-to-analog conversion system engineered with a three-chassis architecture that separates digital processing, analog conversion, and power delivery into dedicated modules. At its core, the system is designed to achieve unprecedented timing accuracy, ultra-low noise performance, and meticulous analog signal fidelity by leveraging an innovative combination of digital input management, a high-precision clock, and a large array of custom DAC modules operating in a true dual-mono topology.
Unlike conventional DACs that consolidate functions into a single enclosure, the Sentinel splits the workflow into three distinct units — the Digital Director, the Analog Converter with a Dual-Mono DAC array, and the dedicated Power Supply. This architecture minimizes electrical interference between stages, reduces jitter, and enhances overall dynamic range by isolating each functional domain. The result is a conversion path tailored for both technical precision and musical coherence, suitable for reference-class playback systems.
The Digital Director serves as the digital front end of the system, receiving source signals from connected digital components and handling all digital processing. It features an intuitive display and user interface, and outputs fully isolated fiber-optic Sentinel-Links to the Analog Converter’s DAC modules. By transferring conversion-ready data over these dedicated links, the Director ensures the Analog Converter receives a clean, synchronized digital signal that is unaffected by source electronics or routing noise.
The Analog Converter employs 32 MSB-designed **Hybrid DAC MKII** modules arranged in a true dual-mono configuration (16 per channel), each powered independently. This high module count increases signal accuracy and resolution, reducing distortion and enhancing micro-detail retrieval across the audio spectrum. Independent left/right analog preamplification further maintains channel separation and minimizes crosstalk. The DAC stage is supported by a custom Sentinel Clock, engineered with ovenized crystal oscillators and isolation platforms to achieve industry-leading timing stability.
Power delivery is handled by the Sentinel Power Supply, which incorporates three separate power modules: one for each Mono DAC and a dedicated supply for the clock circuitry. Each module uses ultra-low noise toroidal transformers and precision regulation to provide clean, isolated energy to its respective subsystem. By allocating power independently to each major component, the Sentinel system minimizes shared noise and enhances dynamic control, contributing to its class-leading noise floor and transient response.
